About the course

Some experiences of trauma cannot be fully understood through psychological symptoms alone. Clients may present with guilt, shame, betrayal, loss of trust, crisis of faith, estrangement from a faith community, or a changed relationship with God. When these experiences involve violations of conscience, moral beliefs, or sacred trust, clinicians may be encountering moral injury or sacred moral injury. In this three-part course, Dr. Len Sperry introduces a clinically useful framework for recognizing moral and spiritual abuse, differentiating moral distress from moral injury, assessing risk and protective factors, and supporting recovery when psychological, moral, and spiritual dimensions intersect.
