Some Wounds Need Healing at the Spiritual Level

Sometimes psychological healing is not enough. A soldier, police officer, or health care worker may carry the weight of having acted against a deeply held moral belief. Fr. David Songy, PsyD, LP, defines moral injury and spiritual distress and explains why the clinician's role is to help clients look at their own moral experience, not to make moral judgments for them. He reviews established trauma therapies, including spiritually integrated cognitive processing therapy, then turns to the Catholic understanding of forgiveness, mercy, redemption, and conversion. You'll learn to work with sacred moral injury and to partner with priests and spiritual directors.
