Begin With What Is Good
Most clients come to therapy with a problem, and many cannot name a single strength. Should treatment start with what is going well? Karen Doll, PsyD, LP, shows how positive psychology and Catholic teaching complement each other: positive psychology offers the how of well-being, and the faith offers the what, the virtues worth pursuing and a purpose beyond the self. She compares the two views of suffering, joy, hope, and growth, then walks through simple practices: strengths work, gratitude, learned optimism, self-compassion, forgiveness, and true rest. You'll learn to use these alongside, never in place of, more intensive treatment, so clients can move toward flourishing.
